Debut and clean sheet for Gauci

Joe Gauci made his debut for loan club Barnsley over the weekend, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at home to Burton Albion in League One.

The Australian stopper signed for the Tykes for the remainder of the season last week, recording a shutout against the in-form Brewers in a stalemate at Oakwell on Saturday, in his first outing.

Elsewhere in League One, there was an assist for Josh Feeney, as Shrewsbury Town recorded a 2-1 home win over Mansfield Town. The young defender set up John Marquis’ opener at the Croud Meadow, standing a ball to the back post which the striker headed home, before George Lloyd notched the winner nine minutes later. 

There was another debut in the Championship, as Louie Barry turned out for Hull City, coming off the bench 56 minutes into the Tigers’ 2-1 defeat at home to Stoke City.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden completed 90 minutes for Preston North End in a 2-1 derby defeat away at Blackburn Rovers, while Lewis Dobbin played 69 minutes for Norwich in their 1-0 win on the road at Watford.

In League Two, Filip Marschall played 90 minutes in goal for Crewe Alexandra, who drew 1-1 away at Harrogate Town, while Tommi O’Reilly came off the bench just before the hour mark in MK Dons’ 2-1 defeat at Doncaster Rovers.

Kobei Moore was denied his Fleetwood Town debut, remaining an unused substitute for the Cod Army in a 4-2 defeat at Morecambe, having signed for the west coast outfit on Friday, though there was a Kidderminster Harriers debut for Charlie Lutz, the young forward coming off the bench for the final five minutes of their FA Trophy defeat at home to Sutton United.

Philippe Coutinho played 90 mins for Vasco da Gama in a 2-2 draw at home to Volta Redonda in Taça Guanabara on Saturday.

In the Premier League, Àlex Moreno was an unused substitute for Nottingham Forest as they triumphed 7-0 over Brighton & Hove Albion, while Samuel Iling-Jr also remained an unused substitute for Bologna who won 2-0 at home to Como in Serie A.

Sunday saw five more on-loan Villans in action. Emi Buendía made his debut for Bayer Leverkusen, coming off the bench after 42 minutes in their 3-1 Bundesliga win over Hoffenheim.

Enzo Barrenechea started and played 87 minutes for Valencia in their 2-1 home triumph over Celta de Vigo in La Liga, while Leander Dendoncker played the full game for Anderlecht as they fell 1-0 away at Gent in the Belgian Pro League.

Lino Sousa played the full game for Bristol Rovers, who triumphed 3-1 at home to Peterborough United in League One, while James Wright completed 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet for Real Unión, who triumphed 2-0 away at Barakaldo in Primera Federación - Group 1.
