Leon Bailey, Matty Cash and Ezri Konsa face late fitness tests ahead of Aston Villa’s clash against Liverpool, but Boubacar Kamara misses out.

Wide man Bailey and centre-back Konsa missed Saturday’s Premier League draw against Ipswich Town at Villa Park, while right-back Cash has been sidelined for the last three matches.

But all three will be assessed ahead of Wednesday’s encounter against the league leaders.

Versatile midfielder Kamara was withdrawn after just 16 minutes at the weekend and has been ruled out against the Reds.

He joins Pau Torres, Ross Barkley and Amadou Onana on the sidelines.

Speaking at Tuesday afternoon’s pre-match media conference, Unai Emery said: “Kamara is out, Bailey is close to being with us again.

“I don’t know tomorrow, he’s a doubt.

“Cash as well is close to being with us, Konsa as well is close to being with us.

“We trained this morning but, until tomorrow morning, I’m not going to decide exactly how much they are ready to play or not or to be with us.”

Kamara became the latest Villa player to be forced off due to injury as he hobbled out in the first half against the Tractor Boys on Saturday.

The Villans have found the treatment table especially busy of late, with Emery admitting it’s challenging to know precisely why, although they’re working hard to turn it around.

“It’s difficult to know exactly the reason for the injured players,” added the Villa manager.

“Normally a lot of teams in the Premier League have a lot of injures.

“We’re playing a lot of matches, always playing matches is adding more risk to getting injured players.

“Kamara, he was ready to play with some problem with his back, the injury was not coming from his back, it’s his hamstring.

“We’re trying to analyse, trying to meet with the doctors, with the physios about how we can get better anticipating circumstances like we have.

“Exactly why? It’s difficult to have this information.

“Of course, we’re going to try to get better in everything.”
