Ezri Konsa praised Aston Villa’s ability to adapt in-game, after they staged a second-half comeback to see of Chelsea 2-1 at Villa Park.

The Blues took an early lead through Enzo Fernandez on Saturday night, but Marco Asensio’s double after the break - the winner coming with just one minute of normal time left to play - sealed an important three points.

Konsa, who returned from injury having missed Villa’s last two outings, was pleased with how he and his team-mates were able to battle through a difficult opening period, and adapt after the interval to secure the spoils.

Speaking after the game on the VillaTV Post-Match Live show, he said: “I think it was a game of two halves.

“First half, I thought they did really well, obviously got the early goal which put us on the back foot. They got out of our press quite well, and we had to adapt.

“It’s important when you start the second half well. We put a lot of pressure on them.

“I think we adapted well, that was the main thing. We adapted to their press. Second half, it opened up a lot more.

“It’s not been easy, but to be able to adapt as players, I think that’s really important.

“This season, it’s been a lot of ups and downs, a lot of inconsistency, but the last two draws that we’ve had at home, we had to make sure today was three points and nothing less.”

Konsa discussed the confidence Villa can take from their fighting spirit and character demonstrated to again come from behind to take something from the game.

The England defender wants Unai Emery’s side to carry momentum into Tuesday’s trip to Crystal Palace, as they look to improve upon their away form.

He added: “I think the confidence has always been there. As players, we always believe in ourselves.

“Sometimes, this season, it hasn’t gone our way. We’ve drawn a lot at home. We’ve only lost one game this season at home in the Premier League.

“There’s been so many games where we shouldn’t have drawn and got the three points, but today’s going to give us a real big boost going into to Tuesday.”
