Aston Villa completed their second signing of the January transfer window on Monday, capturing highly-rated Spanish right-back Andrés García from Levante.

The 21-year-old arrives in B6 on the back of four productive years on Spain’s south coast, where he rose from Levante’s academy, to ‘B’ side, to first team, for whom he has made 46 Segunda División appearances over the past two seasons.

His attacking prowess means he is commonly deployed at right-wing-back or even on the right wing – where he began his career – and has already seen him net three goals and register three assists for Los Azulgranas this term.

Born in Valencia, García started off with local side Inter San José, before his talents were identified by Levante, joining their youth setup in 2021.

He made his debut for Levante B in September 2022, netting his first goal two months later in a 1-0 win over Elche CF Ilicitano.

Two months after that came his first team bow, as he replaced Álex Cantero in a 3-1 Copa del Rey win over Getafe.

That summer, his promise and potential was rewarded with a one-year contract extension, including the option of a further three seasons.

An injury sustained in September kept him sidelined for three months of the 2023/24 campaign, before he established himself as a senior player at right-back upon his return, netting his first professional goal at the end of that season in a 2-2 draw with AD Alcorcón.

García’s form continued into the 2024/25 campaign. He has started all but one Segunda División match for Levante, and has three goals and two assists in his last eight outings, standing out as one of the league’s top performers this season.

The goals have been superb. His first of this term, at the beginning of December in a 2-1 defeat at Mirandés, saw him put Levante ahead with a stunning right-footed volley from the edge of the area.

Shortly after, three days before Christmas, he cut inside onto his left foot in a visit of Huesca, sending an unstoppable effort into the top corner, again from outside the box.

Then, in Levante’s next game, seven days after the turn of the year, García picked up the ball on the edge of his own area away at Tenerife, driving the length of the field and into the opposition box, before again cutting inside and bending a left-footed strike off the post and in.

García will immediately join up with his new teammates this week, upon their return from a Champions League trip to Monaco.
