Jacob Ramsey shared his delight at having qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, following Wednesday night’s thrilling 4-2 win over Celtic.

The winger picked up two assists in a frenetic encounter at Villa Park, as Morgan Rogers’ hat-trick and a goal from Ollie Watkins sealed a memorable win.

Ramsey admitted pressure was added to Villa’s meeting with the Scottish outfit, after last week’s defeat in Monaco, but overall feels he and his team-mates can be proud of their league phase campaign.

“Obviously, over the moon,” he said.

“Our target [at the] start of the competition was just to take it game by game.

“But I think when you get the big results against Bayern Munich at home, Leipzig away and Young Boys away, you’re hoping for top eight.

“We were disappointed against Monaco not to get the three points there to confirm that, but we did that tonight.

“We put ourselves in a really tough position tonight, but Morgan came through with the hat-trick and I think the team played really well.”

Discussing his side’s performance, Ramsey felt Villa had control of the encounter throughout, even when letting an early advantage slip in the opening period.

The 23-year-old was pleased with their ability to take care of business in the second half, to ensure the B6 faithful were sent home happy.

Speaking on the two first-half goals conceded, Ramsey said: “That’s just part of football.”

He added: “I thought we started off really well, controlled the game, two quick goals in the first five minutes, and then they get the two goals and it’s even.

“But I still felt like we controlled the game, regardless of the scoreline, and [it was] just a good night overall.

“We started off really well, and then they got the two goals back. At half-time, we said we needed to kill the game, and I think we did that.”
