Aston Villa were convincingly beaten 4-0 at home by Manchester United in the Women’s Super League this afternoon.
A brace from Elisabeth Terland and wonder-strike from Grace Clinton had the visitors three goals to the good at the break before Leah Galton sealed the win with United’s fourth in the second-half.
Natalia Arroyo changed her side’s formation for the game as she reverted to a back five which saw Dan Turner, Jordan Nobbs, Missy Bo Kearns and Gabi Nunes come into the starting 11.

Maya Le Tissier found Terland inside the box with a long-range pass in the 12th minute, but Sabrina D’Angelo was equal to the forward’s flicked on effort.
Jill Baijings was brought down in a dangerous position six minutes later as Villa were awarded a free-kick just outside the area but Nunes could only good it straight at the United wall and the clearance was made.
The away side got the scoring up and running in the 22nd minute as Terland netted her first goal of the afternoon.
Celine Bizet slid a pinpoint cross through to box and into the unmarked striker who turned the ball home safely.
Terland doubled United’s advantage nine minutes later as this time she got on the end of a terrific pass from Jayde Rivere and neatly nodded the ball into the back of the net.
Rivere came close to bagging a goal of her own in the 43rd minute as she dribbled through the Villa half before going for it from distance with a strong and lofted effort, but D’Angelo got across to collect.
Clinton put her side firmly in the driving seat just before the break as she made it 3-0 to United on the stroke of half-time.
The midfield yanked Baijings off the ball but the referee harshly played on which allowed Clinton to find the space and rocket a shot from 30+ yards out that floated over D’Angelo in goal and landed in the back of the net.

D’Angelo denied Terland her hat-trick in the 57th minute as she Villa goalkeeper pulled of a brilliant the save.
The United forward nodded a powerful header goalwards, but D’Angelo remained firmed and leaning back she pushed the ball to safety.
The ball found Nobbs just inside the box moments later and the midfielder skilfully wrapped her foot around a shot, searching for the far bottom corner, but her effort flew just wide.
Villa’s hopes of sparking an impressive comeback were quickly extinguished in the 64th minute as Galton made it 4-0 as she turned the ball home at the near post after Melvine Malard dangerously whipped it into the area.
However, Villa weren’t going out without a fight as they pushed on to try and reduce the goal deficit.

Substitute Ebony Salmon cut inside and found Lucy Parker inside the box and the defender took a touch before shooting but her shot was deflected out wide.
Nobbs rolled a pass through the defence and into Maz Pacheco in the 75th minute but her low shot was smothered by the keeper.
Pacheco tried her look again eight minutes later as this time she received the ball from Rachel Daly before carrying it goalwards and lashing a shot, but her effort sailed wide of the target.
The Villans kept pushing into the game’s closing stages with Lucy Staniforth drilling a corner kick out to Missy Bo Kearns who blasted a great shot towards goal from over 20 yards out but her effort landed just wide and time ran out.
